Story in Color Lenormand

This project began as a way to think about Lenormand through color and watercolor paint — expressing the essence and energy of each card through color and the movement of that color. Kelly has long believed images aren't strictly necessary for Lenormand: a ship is a ship is a ship, the meaning inherent in tradition rather than any specific image.

This deck goes back to Lenormand's roots, when these shapes were first seen repeated in tea leaves and coffee grounds — no one expected the exact form of a house, they saw a shape that connected to house, or ship, or fox. In the same way, the color and movement here reach past the symbol to the meaning underneath it.

The traditional Man and Woman cards have been renamed Querent and Significant — the person being read for, and the person significant to them — while keeping the same active/masculine/fire and receptive/feminine/water energies, so readers can still read them as Man and Woman if they prefer.
